The 1st 4 Sport Level 2 Certificate in Coaching Weightlifting will be delivered by an accredited British Weightlifting tutor. It is comprised of eight units of assessment of which four are generic coaching units and four Weightlifting coaching-specific units. These units require learners to show that they can plan and deliver coaching sessions which meet the requirements of the Level 2 Weightlifting Technical Syllabus. To qualify for the 1st 4 Sport Level 2 Certificate in Coaching Weightlifting (QCF), learners must successfully complete/have credit for all eight units.
Achievement of the qualification is through attendance on a course of training and assessment. Due to the nature of this qualification and the related learning and assessment methods the most effective way to provide a course is via a holistic training and assessment package which enables learners to achieve all eight units in the context of coaching Weightlifting.
Prerequisites:
- Have completed a BWL Level 1 Coaching Course
- All candidates must be over 18 years of age on the first day of the course
- Have some experience of the lifts and weight lifting
- Be able to communicate effectively in English
Skills relating to the qualification:
- Create, deliver and evaluate a series of linked weight lifting sessions
- Supervise other coaches to deliver weight lifting sessions
Course Structure:
To qualify for the 1st 4 Sport Level 2 Certificate in Coaching Weight Lifting (QCF), learners must complete all eight units which will give them 17 credits. The units cover the following:
- Understand the role of a coach
- Understand the coaching process
- Understand participants learning styles
- Understand behaviour management
- Understand how to reflect on a coaching session
- Understand the principles of planning coaching sessions
- Understand the principles of skill development through coaching sessions
- Understand how the stages of participant development impact on their coaching
- Understand the principles of evaluation in coaching
This unit assess the coach’s understanding of the lifestyle factors of nutrition, physical conditioning, mental preparation and awareness of drugs which underpin performance in sport.
- Understand basic nutrition and hydration principles for sports performance
- Understand basic physical conditioning for sport
- Understand basic principles of mental preparation in sport
- Understand how to support participant awareness of drugs in sport This unit will be assessed through knowledge tests, tasks, assignments or practical delivery.
This unit assesses the coach’s understanding of how to ensure that coaching is safe and equitable
- Understand how to ensure participants’ safety during sport specific coaching sessions
- Understand how to ensure equitable caching of sport specific activities
This unit covers the planning of a short series of linked weight lifting coaching sessions which includes reviewing participant(s)’ needs and establishing goals for weight lifting coaching sessions, producing plans for individual weight lifting coaching sessions within the series that support participant(s) needs and identified goals and planning for the evaluation of the series of weight lifting coaching sessions.
- Be able to review participant(s)’ needs for a series of weight lifting coaching sessions
- Be able to produce a series of weight lifting coaching and session plans
- Be able to plan the evaluation of a series of weight lifting coaching sessions
This unit covers the provision of resources for a weight lifting coaching session, assessing and minimising risk, establishing and maintaining working relationships with participants(s) and other people and the safeguarding and protecting of children and vulnerable adults during a weight lifting coaching session.
- Be able to prepare resources for weight lifting coaching sessions
- Be able to assess and minimise risks before the weight lifting session
- Be able to establish and maintain working relationships
- Be able to safeguard and protect children and vulnerable adults
This unit covers the delivery of weight lifting coaching sessions, including preparing the participant(s) to take part, delivering the session, developing angler performance and concluding the session.
- Be able to prepare participant(s) for weight lifting coaching sessions
- Be able to deliver weight lifting coaching sessions
- Be able to develop participant(s)’ performance
- Be able to conclude weight lifting coaching sessions
- The delivery of 6 coaching sessions for weight lifting; 4 of which must be linked and progressive. The planned sessions must be of a minimum of 20 minutes sessions
- The observed delivery of a minimum of two weight lifting coaching sessions by an appropriately qualified assessor. These sessions must be observed for a minimum of 20 minutes
This unit covers the monitoring and evaluation of weight lifting coaching sessions, including evaluating participant performance, coaching sessions and own coaching practice.
- Be able to evaluate weight lifter performance
- Be able to evaluate weight lifting coaching sessions
- Be able to evaluate and develop own weight lifting coaching practice
- The evaluation of 6 individual coaching sessions
- The evaluation of the 4 linked and progressive sessions
- All practical sessions must be drawn from the Level 2
- Weight Lifting technical syllabus developed for weight lifting
